INT. JOHN’S CAR - DAY
John is looking at the car in front of him. The traffic is at a stand still. John looks very
stressed. The traffic begins to move and
a car from the next lane over cuts in front of John’s car even though there is
hardly any room. This angers John.
JOHN
(angry)
What an idiot.
John looks stressed and continues to drive in the traffic.
INT. BEDROOM
John sits on the bed and looks concerned. Susan lays down next
to him and looks over at him.
SUSAN
You going to shut the light off?
JOHN
Yeah in a minute.
JOHN
Did you know I’ve been at my job for ten years now.
SUSAN
Yes I did.
John shakes his head back and forth.
JOHN
I can’t believe I’ve had a job for that long. I’ve never lasted that long at a job before.
SUSAN
I’m really tired.
John ignores her and keeps on talking because he’s got to much on his mind.
JOHN
Maybe it’s time for a new job?
SUSAN
Can you please turn off the light.
John pauses for a moment then reaches over to the light and
shuts it off. He lays
down in the bed and covers himself.
Susan covers herself also. A moment later John begins the discussion again.
JOHN
I feel like I’m not getting anywhere in life. Like every things on hold and I can’t get to
the next level.
SUSAN
Well what do you want to do about it?
JOHN
I don’t know.
SUSAN
Well, try to get some sleep and maybe you’ll feel better in
the morning.
John looks discouraged but stops talking.
INT. BEDROOM
The alarm clock goes off.
John shuts it off and slowly sits up in bed. He puts his hand on his chest and makes an
uncomfortable look on his face. He takes
a couple deep breaths. Susan wakes up
and looks over at him.
SUSAN
You ok?
JOHN
My chest feels really tight and my heart is pounding
hard... Here listen.
John puts his chest toward her. Susan leans over and puts her ear to John’s
chest.
JOHN
How’s it sound?
SUSAN
Sounds ok to me.
JOHN
I wonder what it could be.
It’s been like this for a while now.
SUSAN
Maybe you should get it checked out.
JOHN
Maybe.
John gets up and walks away.
EXT. DOUG’S GARAGE - DAY
John walks over to the garage doorway he is a little
nervous.
JOHN
Hello.
Doug turns around and looks over at John.
DOUG
Hi, come in.
John hesitates for a moment but then slowly walks in to the
garage. Doug walks over to John and
shakes his hand.
DOUG
Can I get you a beer?
JOHN
No that’s ok.
DOUG
I’m Doug.
JOHN
Nice to meet you Doug, I’m John.
John looks around at the garage.
JOHN
You have a nice setup here.
DOUG
Thanks. I’ve been at
this a while.
JOHN
So what do you do in here?
I see you hang out here on the weekends and you look so happy.
DOUG
Just hobbies and play with the kids.
John feels a little awkward.
JOHN
I feel a little strange coming over here like this. But I’m just trying to figure out what I
should do in my garage and was hoping to get some ideas from you.
Doug thinks for a moment.
DOUG
Do you have any hobbies?
JOHN
Not really.
DOUG
What do you like to do?
John thinks for a moment.
JOHN
I honestly can’t think of anything.
Doug feels a little sad for John.
DOUG
Your welcome to hang out here anytime and maybe you’ll
figure something out.
JOHN
(smiles)
I would like that.
Thanks.
DOUG
No problem.
JOHN
Well it was nice meeting you.
DOUG
You to John.
John smiles and walks away.
Doug looks at him and does a quick shake of his head and then smiles.
